Not an official market, the nighttime stalls on Khao San Road cater to young travelers and, as such, this is where you’ll find the funkiest do-dads and trinkets in town. From hip-hop fashions and cool T-shirts, to small original artworks, souvenirs and lots of pirate CD and DVD stalls (you didn’t hear it from me), you’ll find it all on Khao San (and much the same stuff as in other markets in Thailand at good prices). It’s worth the trip for the atmosphere alone, bass-thumping clubs, busy bars and Internet shops and all the tattooed, pierced and idealistic young travelers going or coming from all corners of Asia. The area just north of Khao San is a maze of small department stores, shops and very affordable retail goods, from clothes to furniture to food.
